Hello,

I am currently reading Data Mining Concepts and Techniques by Jian Pei.This book is a whole lot of theory and not much engrossing.Can someone please suggest a more practical approach oriented book which illustrates the concepts by using practical examples with data.

@Shuvayan,

You can read these books for practical illustration of data mining concepts:

  • A Programmer’s Guide to Data Mining: This book has real-life experiences, those are focused at beginners to help you better understand the whole process of data manipulation, and how algorithms work.
  • Mining of Massive Datasets: This book has more about data mining on the web, and it discusses the most common set of problems when designing for the web. It has plenty of examples and tasks to do at the end of each section.

Hope this helps!

Regards,
Imran

Jian Pei is good. I love his tutorials on Coursera. You will find the “Pattern Discovery in Data Mining” by him at Coursera.

You can start with R and Data mining by Zhao- very easy to understand
2)DATA MINING AND BUSINESS ANALYTICS WITH R - Wiley publication
3) Data Science From Scratch - by Joel-Grus
4) The elements of statistical learning data mining, inference and prediction - Springer publication

These all books are very easy to understand and useful to learn data science
