Can a bad coder become a good data scientist?

By bad coder, I mean that one is not that much good at coding (say, for something even simple like C)… What benefit does a good coder have as a data scientist? Is it relevant enough or not? I, however seem to know that “A data scientist is a better programmer than a statistician”.

@swarncar,

Yes, good programmer has an added advantage to do well in data science domain.They do invest more time on problem understanding, solution and structure rather coding. This is the major advantage of good programmer although if you are not good in programming, you will catch it over time.

Data scientist must be good on following skills:

  • Structure thinking
  • Numbers
  • Statistics
  • Problem Solving

And, above all (s)he should have patience!
