I’m programmer analyst in cognizant working in mainframes technology .I know R,PYTHON,SQL I have 1.6years of experience in mainframes .How can i switch my profile to data scientist.
Knowing R & Python May not be sufficient.
You should understand the nuances of all the algorithms (linear and non-linear algorithms, including classification, regression and forecasting algorithms)
In a nutshell, Deterministic, probabilistic,Stochastic,Heuristic, AI & OR algorithms.
Then apply your knowledge of R & Python to solve the problems.
Also you should know excel with VBA and two reporting tools such as Tableau/Qlikview,power BI/Microstrategy etc.
Besides the above , Hadoop ecosystem.
In a nutshell, you should know not only everything under the sky but also above the sky.
In my personal opinion if you know 60% then you can become one of the best data scientist
