Hi,
Would like to give some inputs on your query -

  1. Python is quite different from Cobol. In general, complex programs in Cobol need command on procedural logic (reading data from files / databases, matching, business logic and flow), whereas Python is a very high level programming language. A large number of libraries make it very very powerful. A single line command in Python can do a lot and there are many ways of implementing a task …so mastering Python is quite different than a language like Cobol and will take some time…Also commands / options in Python are vast as compared to that in Cobol
  2. A long experience in Cobol (end-to-end handling of systems in Cobol) will generally provide deep understanding of business systems. That is definitely useful in for working in Analytics, Data Science domain …
  3. A career in Data Science will need a good knowledge of statistics and calculus (derivatives mainly for deep learning) besides very good business knowledge and off course a lot of common sense…
  4. Though Data Scientists are in great demand, pl remember that a large of young aspirants are trying to get into this domain, so often an experienced candidate (without experience in data science, AI per say) will be compared against some one with a degree (graduate / post graduate in data science, s) with 3-4 years of experience…and probably second category will have an edge in many scenarios…
  5. Getting a job in EU will be easier if one is working in EU and will be rather difficult from other countries …
    Best Wishes
